Biography:

.-

Venezuelan-American composer, pianist, and conductor of European descent [Spain & Greece]. She began her musical studies at the age of three in the city of Caracas, Venezuela. While still very young, her family moved to Paris, France. In Paris, Sylvia studied at L’École Martenot de Paris with Pura Penichet, and later at l’Université Sorbonne de Paris, France. Back in Venezuela, she received her Bachelor of Arts and Music diploma from the Universidad Central de Venezuela [1987]. While already touring as a young Concert pianist artist since the 80’s. In 1990, she moved to the United States to continue her postgraduate studies. She has two Master’s degrees with Cum Laude mention, the first in Piano Performance [1993], and a few years later, her second Master in Music Theory and Composition, both from the University of Miami. After, she continued her doctoral studies in Music at Boston University, USA.

 

Earlier in 2006, Constantinidis studied Music Composition with Czech-American composer Ladislav Kubik in Prague, Czech Republic.  She also studied Orchestral Conducting in England, with George Hurst & Rodolfo Saglimbeni [2009-2012]. And, back in England, she studied composition, for several years, with British Composer Malcolm Singer from the Guildhall School of Music.

 

During her study years, Sylvia received masterclasses with great artist pianists including: Dimitri Bashkirov , Paul Badura-Skoda, Walter Blakenheim, Abraham Abreu, Gilbert de Greeve, Judith Jaimes, Maria Joao Pires, Stephen Hough, Tamas Ungar, And artist Jose Feghali, winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

 

Since 2019, Sylvia is an Artist-Fellow of the US Department of State. She has received a large number of awards and citations for her artistic work. Among others: The Global Music Award, two ASCAP awards, the “Note Music Award 2003” for her three children’s operas and a Latin Grammy nomination. She has participated as a pianist, composer and conductor in concerts and musical festivals in Puerto Rico, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, France, England, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Venezuela. Artist in Residence of the “Artists for Peace” Foundation. She is considered an ambassador of Latin American Classical Music, for her interest in the study, dissemination and performance of this repertoire worldwide.

 

Constantinidis has also premiered and recorded repertoire by a variety of contemporary composers. SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL”,  -“VENEZUELAN DANCES SIGLO XIX”,  -“SYLVIA PAR ELLE MEME”, -“SONG OF PEACE”.  -“ALBERTO GINASTERA CENTENNIAL” dedicated to the Argentine composer and the CD -“ANTONIO ESTEVEZ: 17 Children’s Pieces” these last two baptized at the XIX Latin American Festival 2016.

 

Sylvia is also a visual and multimedia artist. Her multimedia work uses a technique of her invention which she calls “KlingerFarbenGraphs”. Her first Klingerfarbengraph-exhibition dates to 2017. It was part of an international collective exhibition sponsored by the US Department of States, “Young Leaders of America” program. Other Klingerfarbengraph-exhibitions includes the Festival Art-Basel Miami 2017 –Kroma Gallery- ArtBasel circuit and shows, in Colombia, Argentina, USA and Europe. Since 2009, Sylvia belongs to the National Board of NACUSA -National Association of Composers of the USA-. She is also member of the Board of Directors of the Venezuelan Society of composers since 2012. Earlier in 2006, Constantinidis created the OMORFIA ENSEMBLE of Contemporary Music. She is also Executive Director and founder of the NEWARTMUSIK Project since 2010. In February 2018 Constantinidis won the Bronze Medal at the Global Music Award, an important international recognition previously won by the Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
