Album Notes:

This beautiful CD is the product of an inspiration in the wonderful story of the birth of the baby Jesus. Musically, I tell the story through three movements.

The first movement, called “La Nuit” -the night- is the most contemporary in style, in terms of compositional schemes. Here, I take advantage of the atonal sounds and concrete sonic materials to create the narrative of the night of difficulties that happen to María and José before finding refuge in the humble little place where they end up spending the night.

The second movement is very beautiful and represents the birth of the baby Jesus. For that reason, the second movement is entitled "L’Enfant d’Or" –The Gold Child-.

The third movement is a song for Christmas. Titled “L’étoile de Bethléem” -The star of Bethlehem-. It represents the night of peace and love that follows the birth of the son of God.

This work for cello and piano is one of the pieces in my collection of compositions written for cello. The cello is an instrument for which I have written quite a bit of solo and chamber music. For me, the cello is an instrument with great expressive capacity and with extraordinary possibilities within the realm of the contemporary language and techniques. My works for this instrument range from melodic, romantic, expressive to plain contemporary language, experimental and daring.

"Chanson de Noel" is a musical work in the spirit of the time of the year that celebrates the birth of the baby Jesus. And I hope it's inspirational and retrospective for the audience.

The work was created as loose movements, between 2006 and 2008. One of the movements was premiered in concert in the Czech Republic in 2006, as part of my repertoire for cello and piano. With Czech Cellist Petr Nouzouvsky, international artist winner of several European Competitions. The other two movements were premiered at the FESTIVAL OF MIAMI 2007. New Music Concert with Russian cellar Konstantin Livinenko with whom the work was later recorded for CD in 2008.
